Typography (N3): Demonstrates effective use of fonts in accordance with the principles of the art, confirming the understanding that typography is fundamental to press design. Goes well with other elements used in design. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different choice front pages/editor’s choice + 1 full issue/editor’s choice.
Photography (N4): Uses photography in such a way as to both illustrate an article and depict the story; displays understanding for the importance of photography in bringing a paper to life. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different choice front pages/editor’s choice + 1 full issue/editor’s choice.
Illustration (N5): Demonstrates understanding for the fundamental role played by illustration: interesting the reader and getting to the essence of material that is presented. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different choice pages/editor’s choice + 1 full issue/editor’s choice.
Infographics (N6): Depicts statistical data and other complex information using well thought out charts, maps and tables. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4-6 different choice pages/editor’s choice + 1 full issue/editor’s choice.
News section (N7): Depicts that thanks to consistent and effective use of typography, illustration, and photography, information is presented in a clear, interesting manner. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different choice pages/editor’s choice + 1 full issue/editor’s choice.
Sports (N8): Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different sections/series of pages/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice
Features/Culture/Opinion (N9): Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different sections/series of pages/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice
Other (N10): Remaining weekend editions and/or stand-alone, regular, supplementary magazines. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 different sections/series of pages/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice
Newspaper-affiliated magazines (N11): Any other regularly appearing section. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of different 4 full issues/editor's choice
Special reports/supplements (N12): Annual or one-time reports carried as supplements to weekday or weekend editions of daily newspapers. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 2 copies of each such report/supplement + 2 full issue/editor's choice
New daily (N13): New newspaper launched between September 1, 2008 and August 31 2009. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 4 full issues/editor's choice
New layout (N14): Re-launch of a daily after implementing changes in layout and/or in content between September 1, 2008 and August 31 2009. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 2 full issues in old layout, 2 full issues in new layout/editor's choice
Section New layout (N15): Re-launch of the section after implementing changes in layout and/or in content between September 1, 2008 and Aug. 31 2009. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 2 different copies of the section pages in old layout, 2 different copies of the section pages in new layout/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice
Innovation (N16): unusual formula or solution (graphic, materials) not been used in any press publication so far: could apply to the whole publication or just/and some column. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 1 more different copies ilustrated use of innovation.
Newspaper internet (N17): Internet sites that are operated as companion media to newspapers. Single entry submissions (all newspapers national, regional and local) should consist of 5 different screens of the web site/editor's choice + URL (web address)

BtoB Magazines – aimed at companies
In the registration forms and the overall listing please use the following category symbols: MXBtoB or MXBtoC, where X stands for subcategory number, e.g. for the subcategory Cover, the symbol is M2BtoC (for mass reader magazines) or M2BtoB (for company magazines).

Typography (M3): Demonstrates effective use of type forms, respects type as fundamental element in print design; uses typography as an effective part of the overall design mix. Single entry submissions should consist of: Weeklies/Bi-weeklies - 4 full issues/editor's choice; Monthlies/Bi-monthlies/Quarterlies - 2 different issues/editor's choice
Photography (M4): Uses photography to tell stories as well as illustrate stories; strong role for photography in bringing "life" to the publications. Illustration (M5): Role of illustration is well understood and executed to create visual interest in the publication, and to illuminate editorial content. Single entry submissions should consist of: Weeklies/Bi-weeklies - 6 different full pages or spreads/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice; Monthlies/Bi-monthlies/Quarterlies - 4 different pages or spreads/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice
Information graphics (M6): Transmits statistics and complicated information through well-conceived and executed charts, graphs, maps and other illustrated materials. Single entry submissions (all entrants) should consist of 4-6 different full pages/spreads where graphics appeared + 1 full issue/editor's choice; please send the graphics on the full pages, showing how they appeared in the magazine
Indeks Content pages (M7): Combines aesthetics with function to provide reader with roadmap for the issue, while also setting the tone for the publications. Single entry submissions should consist of: Weeklies/Bi-weeklies - Content pages from 4 different issues/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice; Monthlies/Bi-monthlies/Quarterlies - Content pages from 2 different issues/editor's choice + 1 full issue/editor's choice
New magazine (M8): New magazine launched during 1 Sept. 2008 - 31 Aug. 2009. Single entry submissions should consist of: Weeklies/Bi-weeklies - 2-4 different full issues/editor's choice; Monthlies/Bi-monthlies/Quarterlies - 2 different full issues/editor's choice

Custom publishing category
Custom Publishing – this is a category for cyclically published magazines, newspapers, corporate bulletins, both internal ones (aimed at company's employees) and external ones (addressed to clients). The contestants in this category can be both companies realizing publications at a client’s order and the ordering companies (marketers) or those dealing with custom publishing on their own.Internal Custom Publishing (CP1): Titles published for distribution amongst company’s employees. In order to apply please send 2-5 different full issues of a company magazine/bulletin (all contestants).
External Custom Publishing (CP2): Titles published for distribution amongst company’s clients and business partners. In order to apply please send 2-5 different full issues of a company magazine/bulletin (all contestants).
Portfolio category - NO ENTRY FEE
Portfolio (P): Studios, individual photographers, illustrators, graphics print designers and internet designers may enter a portfolio of work carried out for magazine and newspaper clients. This category is also open to any photographers, illustrators, graphics and designers working inside eligible publications. What you must send: All portfolio entries - 5-10 works as they appeared in minimum 2 different the publications. For internet design - 5 screens of the web site + URL (web address) ATTENTION: Please send full pages or spreads from the publications themselves. DO NOT SEND ORIGINALSDeadline for entries: October 7, 2009
